Football shirt facts #4 –Carlsberg on Copenhagen shirts in 1994.
The first association of any collector with FC Copenhagen shirts is certainly the iconic sponsor, Carlsberg.
The club from the capital of Denmark has been associated with one of the largest brewing companies in the world since 1999. Carlsberg replaced the Swedish company Kinnarps (manufacturer of office furniture) as the main sponsor on their shirts. Few people realize, however, that Carlsberg quite unexpectedly appeared on FCK jerseys a few years earlier.
This rather unusual situation took place in 1994. FC Copenhagen received an invitation to the “TU 60 Cup” tournament, also known as the King of Thailand Cup, which ran from January 7 to 9. The tournament was organized by Thammasat University, which then celebrated its 60th anniversary. In addition to the Danes, teams such as Gremio, Ajax Amsterdam and the Nigerian national team also received invitations to the tournament.

Copenhagen's main sponsor at the time, Danica, was uninterested in promoting its brand in Thailand, and the spot on the shirts for the duration of the event was unexpectedly taken by a Danish brewer.
The premiere performances of FC Copenhagen in Carlsberg advertising jerseys turned out to be very successful. Keld Kristensen's side defeated Brazil's Gremio in the semi-finals thanks to Peter Møller's 6th-minute header.
5 years after triumphing in this heavily-staffed friendly tournament, Copenhagen signed a long-term sponsorship deal with the Carlsberg brand. The cooperation lasted continuously for 22 years. It was only before the start of the 2021/22 season that the bookmaker Unibet took a place on the central part of the Parken club's jerseys.
